The Ohio State University, College of Engineering, William G. Lowrie Department of Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering is seeking a Researcher (Researcher 3). This will be a Senior level Researcher role within the College. This is a Specialized Track role where the work will be  achieved through individual efforts as well as participation through project teams. The work done in this role may coordinate, review or influence the work of others within the Department.

Minimum Required Education is a Ph.D. Degree in Chemical Engineering, Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering or Equivalent. Desired Education is a PhD in Chemical Engineering or Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering. Candidate must have 5-6 years of relevant research experience with 6-7 years of relevant research experience preferred.

Researcher should be fully experienced within the Research Laboratory environment. Researcher will serve as a resource for Research Technicians, Graduate Research Associates, Undergraduate Research Assistants and Undergraduate Students. Researcher will apply their industry knowledge and a thorough understanding of the Research being performed to lead research and work independently. Researcher will work on complex research projects of large scope within the Department. Researcher will be able to complete routine work independently; while only requiring general guidance on new research initiatives and projects.

Specific Research Areas that the Researcher will be involved in will include: research on new and emerging membranes for energy applications including CO2/N2 separation/carbon capture, hydrogen purification/carbon capture, and olefin/paraffin separation; Work on polymeric membranes in conjunction with inorganic nanofillers, chemical compounds and other materials, membrane synthesis, scale-up and characterization, membrane module fabrication and testing, process design and simulations, techno-economic analysis, and modeling and theoretical calculations.

In general, the Researcher will lead in engineering related research, conduct roll-to-roll membrane fabrication, evaluate membrane performance, fabricate and test membrane elements and modules, make and record observations and measurements, collect and compile data for computer input and analysis, perform library research on related topics, prepare reports on research projects, present research findings at a scientific meeting, publish a coherent set of scientific results in a refereed journal, participate in the execution of experiments, operate and maintain laboratory equipment, and prepare graphic presentations; other duties as assigned.

Required Experience:

5 – 6 years of experience working in membrane research using materials and calculations for separations;

5 – 6 years of experience conducting research on materials and calculations.

Desired Experience:

7+ years of experience in Membrane separations.
