The successful candidates will perform an attosecond electron microscopy imaging experiments (1) measuring the attosecond electron pulses, and (2) imaging the electron dynamics in DNA and cable bacteria.

Duties & Responsibilities

The candidate utilizes knowledge and experience in attosecond electron microscopy to develop, design, set-up, and conduct imaging experiments. This includes:

  • Building the polarization gating optical setup, overlap between two interferometer arms, and send it to the microscope. Make sure the two beams overlap in time and space.
  • Measuring the PINEM spectrum and then measuring the cross-correlation electron PINEM spectra measurements.
  • Utilizes specialized in-depth knowledge to perform the data analysis from the cross-correlation electron PINEM spectra measurements and retrieve the attosecond pulse temporal profile of the gated electron pulse.
  • Assist the PI in overseeing day-to-day operation of the moderately complex attosecond electron microscopy research project. This includes direct supervision of 2 graduate (Ph.D.) students and supervisory support of the remaining project team. Build and deliver training to lab members to ensure accuracy and compliance. Participates in team meetings, monitors progress of the team, and develops progress reports to the PI. Is the subject matter expert for communication with PI and others associated with the experiment.
  • Lead and collaborate in publishing peer-reviewed journal articles and present the results at conferences with or without PI. Participate in the acquisition of research funding and working with PI on writing grant proposals as needed.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelors in Physics, or related topics.
  • Minimum of 5 years of relevant work experience, or equivalent combination of education and work experience in ultrafast science.
Preferred Qualifications
  • PhD in physics or related field.
  • Five years of postdoc experience.
  • Experience in attosecond electron microscopy field.
