The University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB), Department of Med - Hematology & Oncology, is seeking a Researcher IV. The position will work in Dr. Davis' lab conducting bench science research.

General Responsibilities

Working with a high degree of independence: 

  • To oversee projects within the laboratory
  • To assume responsibility for the day-to-day operation of lab activities. 
  • To collect, enter, summarize, analyze, and interpret data. 
  • To contribute significantly to the planning/design of studies. 
  • To help develop long or short-term goals.

Key Duties & Responsibilities

  • Oversees projects within the laboratory and assumes responsibility for the day to day operation of lab activities.
  • Contributes significantly to the planning/design of studies.
  • Collects, enters, summarizes, analyzes and interprets data.
  • Monitors results, detects and reports unusual outcomes, develops modifications and provides data to management.
  • Participates and helps develop long or short term goals or strategic business objectives.
  • With direction, contributes to grant proposals and assists in the preparation and editing of grant applications.
  • Supervises lab equipment and supplies.
  • Uses advanced knowledge of lab practices to direct and teach others.
  • Will work in a team with in-depth knowledge in fundamental immunology and cancer research.
  • Should have a strong background in biochemistry and experience with Western blotting and immunoprecipitation. This will include some expertise in molecular biology including cloning, PCR, RNA and DNA isolation, and RQ-PCR.
  • Studies will extend to cell culture as well as cell transfection and transduction (retroviral and lentiviral) to make stable human and mouse cell lines.
  • Experience with FACS and ELISA and some knowledge of mouse colony maintenance, genotyping, and tissue dissection will be helpful.
  • Should have the ability to plan experiments, interpret data, prepare figures, draft protocols for IACUC, and train other staff members and students.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Annual Salary Range         $47,486.40 - $85,000.00

     

    Qualifications

     
    • Doctorate in a related field
    • OR Master's degree in a related field and two (2) years of related experience
    • OR Bachelor’s degree in related field and four (4) years of related experience
    • OR Associate's degree in related field and six (6) years of related experience

    Work experience may NOT substitute for education requirement.

    Preferences

    • Degree in a scientific field.
