The University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB), Department of Surgery, is seeking a highly motivated Researcher III in the Division of Breast and Endocrine Surgery. The Researcher position will collect, record, maintain and analyze data and information in support of specialized and complex scientific research. The position will assist the Principal Investigators or Lab Managers in organizing the lab and in generating and maintaining standardized protocols. Research includes maintaining mouse lines and records, molecular biotechnology (cloning and protein purification), enzymatic analyses, tissue culture and maintenance of tumor cell lines.

 

General Responsibilities

As directed:

  • To independently set up and perform experiments and procedures in support of lab goals.
  • To collect, enter, summarize, and analyze data.
  • To monitor results, detect and report unusual outcomes and suggest modifications.
  • To develop and improve techniques for the lab.

Key Duties & Responsibilities

  • Performs molecular biotechnology (cloning and protein purification).
  • Performs tissue culture and maintenance of tumor cell lines.
  • Maintains mouse lines and records.
  • Creates and maintains laboratory databases on genotype/phenotype information.
  • Performs enzymatic analyses, data analyses and figure preparation.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Annual Salary Range         $35,570.00 - $59,800.00

     

    Qualifications

     
    • Master's degree in a related field
    • OR Bachelor’s degree in a related field and two (2) years of related experience
    • OR Associate's degree in a related field and four (4) years of related experience

    Work experience may NOT substitute for education requirement.

    Preferences

    • Degree with Biology discipline
    • Experience with animal husbandry, genotyping, basic molecular techniques, mouse dissection, tissue processing and other technician duties

    Key Skills

    • Ability to understand data results and communicate results.
    • Ability to troubleshoot next experiments.
