Internal Number: 361354

A highly motivated technician researcher is sought to join the Provenzano laboratory in the Department of Biomedical Engineering and the Masonic Cancer Center at the University of Minnesota in Minneapolis MN.  Our laboratory focuses on understanding the molecular mechanisms by which the extracellular matrix and stromal and immune cell populations influence cancer progression.  As a fully integrating engineering and biology, we are particularly interested in how these factors influence disease progression to metastasis and resistance to therapeutic intervention in breast and pancreas cancer, and develop new therapeutic approaches.  To answer these fundamental questions we rely heavily on genetically engineered mouse models and transgenic mice.  In addition, we utilize imaging, cell culture, and cell and molecular biology techniques.  This represents an excellent opportunity for a highly motivated individual to work and learn in a tight-knit team and directly contribute to the study of relevant problems in cancer.
Responsibilities
The researcher must be able to work independently. Primary responsibilities will be focused on laboratory management, our mouse colony work (including aspects of husbandry, genotyping, and treatment), and experiments involving therapeutic intervention studies, harvest of tissues and tissue analysis.  The researcher will assist with the general management, organization, and function of the laboratory, investigate and evaluate vendors and products for consumable reagents and specialized lab equipment, maintain lab inventories and assist others in safety and maintenance of equipment and supplies.  For the mouse colony, the researcherâ™s work will include executing breeding strategies, mouse husbandry, tagging and weening, genotyping, and performing necropsies to obtain tissues for histology and establishing cell lines (experience in these areas is preferred). Work may also involve the maintenance and study of primary cell lines, the isolation of DNA, RNA, and proteins, immunohistochemistry, and flow cytometry.  The ability to multi-task with precise attention to detail is particularly critical.

  • Lab management, organization, stocking, and ordering (25%)
  • Work with mouse colony (30%)
  • Design and carry out experiments and analyze data (30%)
  • Prepare and present data to study investigators (10%)
  • Author, co-author, and otherwise collaborate on reports, conference papers and journal articles. (5%)

Required: BA/BS and 2 years related experience or a combination of education and work experience to equal six (6) years.
