Job Title:
Researcher 3

Department:
Medicine | IM Medical Oncology

Overview

We are seeking fill the position of a Researcher who will design and manage complex scientific investigations in the laboratory of Dr. Regan Memmott, MD, PhD, who is a physician-scientist and thoracic oncologist, as well as a member of the Translational Therapeutics Program within the Comprehensive Cancer Center at the Ohio State University.

She leads a translational research program that identifies mechanisms of resistance to targeted therapies for lung cancer and develops therapeutic strategies to overcome these mechanisms. Our laboratory incorporates basic and translational techniques using cell culture and mouse models of lung cancer, as well as clinical sample analysis. Preclinical studies conducted by our group have led to the development of an investigator-initiated trial in patients evaluating a novel drug combination for the treatment of EGFR-mutant lung cancer. We are also investigating the molecular mechanisms that promote an immunosuppressive tumor microenvironment (TME) in lung cancers driven by certain driver mutations, and how to target these mechanisms to improve the immunocompetency of the TME.

Candidates are encouraged to pursue their interests related to the development of drugs that target cellular signaling pathways and immuno-oncology under the mentorship of Dr. Memmott. Opportunities to be involved in the development of clinical trial protocols and correlative studies are also available.

Responsibilities:

  • Design and manage complex scientific investigations in both basic and translational research in thoracic oncology to identify novel therapies in lung cancer.

  • Collaborate with Principal Investigator (PI) to develop, manage and implement research projects.

  • Investigate potential sources of funding and make recommendations to PI

  • Develop and establish research controls and standards, including animal models (mouse)

  • Plan, write and generate figures for manuscripts and assist with grant applications; as well as, preparing scientific progress reports to granting agencies as needed.

  • Participate in weekly lab meetings, as well as present research at scientific meetings and conferences

  • Perform a variety of complex molecular biology techniques, e.g., protein/DNA/RNA isolation, immunoblotting and immunohistochemical analysis, PCR techniques, etc.

  • Prepare and analyze samples by flow cytometry and cell sorting, including spectral flow cytometry

  • Perform a variety of cell culture techniques, including primary cell culture, generating new cell lines, and processing tissue (human and murine) into single cell suspensions.

  • Process human blood and tissue samples and isolating human immune cell subtypes

  • Data and statistical analysis, including single-cell RNA sequencing data analysis

  • Train other staff on techniques and protocols and provide mentorship to more junior laboratory members
