About the Job:
Dr. Lou currently has active projects in cellular and molecular biology of several solid tumor types. The Lou Lab is expanding; this position has been developed in order to meet needs for new and exciting projects that include extensive use of in vitro and in vivo cancer models.  
Research (80%) 
⢠Conduct studies in the tumor microenvironment and/or tumor immunology. Handling clinical samples and ability to lead and perform molecular biology research.
⢠Define and execute experiments in cellular and molecular biology of cancer in find solutions to research problems.
⢠Write reports on findings and communicate with PI.
⢠Extensive experience in cell culture techniques, generating cell lines, cloning and site-directed mutagenesis, routine procedures including DNA/RNA isolation and PCR, flow cytometry/FACS, immunoassays, western blotting.
⢠Ability to manage a research laboratory, including ordering lab supplies and day to day maintenance of lab culture.
⢠Design and manage lab research schedule, monitor findings, document and alter as needed.
⢠Microscopy responsibilities.
Writing (5%)
Take on the lead or supportive role in drafting and publishing of research results in peer reviewed journals, and portions of grant proposals for submission for funding. 
⢠Complete applications for all required approvals for research projects such as Animal Usage Application, Institutional Review Board protocol, and Use of Infectious Agents Form.
⢠Provide detail reports on laboratory research projects to PI as directed.
Training (10%) 
⢠Assist and train graduate and undergraduate students, and postdoctoral fellows, on a daily basis under the direction of the Principal Investigator. Oversee Trainees in the Lou Research Lab. Supervise students in the lab as needed.
Lab Management (5%)  
⢠Overseeing and contributing to general maintenance and cleanliness of the lab. 
⢠Ordering supplies as needed and proactively based on anticipated short-term and long-term needs for the entire lab. 
⢠Reporting issues proactively to the lab PI in a timely and effective manner.

Required Qualifications:
⢠BS/BA degree in Biological sciences with a specialization in cellular and/or molecular biology of cancer and two years of experience or a combination of education and work experience to equal six years
⢠Previous experience working in an academic laboratory research setting (minimum of two years).
⢠Experience in cell culture techniques, generating cell lines, cloning and site-directed mutagenesis, routine procedures including DNA/RNA isolation and PCR, flow cytometry/FACS, immunoassays, Western blotting, or a reasonable combination of the above.
Preferred Qualifications:
⢠Masters degree or PhD in Biological sciences with a specialization in cellular and/or molecular biology of cancer
⢠Experience working in and managing a research laboratory, including ordering lab supplies, overseeing trainees, and general day to day maintenance of lab culture.
⢠Ability to identify and troubleshoot problems.
⢠Experience with handling clinical samples and ability to perform molecular biology research.
⢠Experience and proficiency in mouse handling, long-term sterile tissue culture and cell-based analysis, processing and documenting human tissue samples for biobanking.
⢠Experience in microscopy and FACS data analysis.
⢠Experience with image analysis and statistical software.
⢠Proficiency in Western blotting/immunoblotting.
⢠Knowledge of nucleic acid expression analysis and associated experimental procedures.
⢠Knowledge of sterile cell culture.
⢠Strong interpersonal skills including excellent written and verbal communication skills.
⢠Willingness to learn and develop new techniques and approaches.
⢠Excellent organization skills and strong record keeping abilities.
⢠Good to excellent proficiency with data analysis and thorough preparation of results for interpretation and publication, including use of GraphPad Prism and Adobe Photoshop.
⢠Ability to self-motivate and work independently.
⢠Ability to follow detailed protocols and standard operating procedures.
