JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

The Penn State College of Medicine, Department of Pediatrics, in Hershey, PA is seeking a Research Technologist. We are looking for an experienced researcher for pre-clinical AML studies, including mouse AML models, molecular biology, cell biology, and cancer biology assays.  The Research Technologist- Medical Science develops, designs and conducts clinical research projects/experiments; investigates and evaluates research methods, advises faculty/researchers on optimal use of methodology; collects, correlates, analyzes, summarizes and reports on results; identifies data integrity issues; trains users in equipment operation and research techniques; and oversees daily operations of projects.

Responsibilities include:

  • The established and primary mammalian cell cultures: ex vivo human AML expansion, other primary patient-derived cells cultures, clonal cells expansion, freezing cells, liquid nitrogen banking.
  • Genetic manipulations with primary human cells and established cell lines (e.g., lentiviral transductions, transfections, CRISPR/Cas9, protein-coding gene expression, shRNA/siRNA gene silencing).
  • Cell biology assays by immuno-staining (ICC, WB, Flow cytometry) and other techniques: cell viability (life/dead), apoptosis, proliferation.
  • Assessment of protein and RNA expression in primary human, mouse tissues and established cell lines.
  • Mice colonies maintenance, IV and other types of injections, analysis of the bone marrow, spleen, lungs etc, by flow cytometry and other assays.
  • IRB, IACUC and other protocol's writing, laboratory management, and student's supervision.
  • Ensure protocol adherence; review progress and evaluate results.
  • Perform a variety of experimental tasks including preparing specimens, microscopy, surgical procedures.
  • Execute and develop data collection procedures; record, correlate, and analyze data; prepare analysis summaries.
  • Develop project protocols; provide input in determining feasibility of goals and objectives; responsible for assuring quality, cost effectiveness and timeliness of assigned projects.

This is a limited-term position funded for one year from date of hire, with possibility of refunding.

The pay range for this position, including all possible grades is:

$42,100.00 - $61,000.00
