The Eddens lab at Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh is looking for a highly motivated individual to fill a full time Laboratory Research Technician III role. The Eddens lab focuses on the immunologic connection between respiratory viral infections early in life and the development of asthma using a neonatal mouse model. The Laboratory Technician III will work independently on projects related to viral growth/purification and immunologic end points (flow cytometry, ELISA, Luminex) from animal studies. A strong candidate will have significant mouse experience, exceptional organizational skills, and technical skills related to basic wet bench research such as cell culture. Immunologic knowledge and/or prior experience with flow cytometry is preferred but not required.

Equivalent relevant work experience may be substituted for degree requirement. This position is located at UPMC Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh in Lawrenceville. PA Child Abuse History Clearance, PA State Police Criminal Record Check, and FBI Criminal Record Check will be required prior to the start of employment. Job Summary

Performs a variety of independent laboratory work and experiments such as determining experimental protocols and preparation of specimens and cultures. Prepares reports of findings subsequent to compilation and analyzation. Oversees specimen inventory. Develops documentation for publication; crafts manuscripts and grant proposals.


Essential Functions 

• Performs a variety of independent laboratory work and experiments, including determining experimental protocols and preparing laboratory specimens and cultures. 
• Analyzes experimental data and interprets results; compiles results; writes reports and summaries of findings. 
• Maintains and oversees specimen inventory and ordering. Maintains lab and chemical inventory. 
• Keeps detailed, accurate, and timely data and log books. 
• Prepares data, graphs, tables, and charts to document experimental results for publication. 
• Writes manuscripts and grant proposals; performs literature searches; summarizes findings for reports and written documentations. 
• Consults with other researchers and staff regarding laboratory procedures and experiments. 
• Develops recommendations and problem resolutions to improve research efforts. 


Physical Effort 

Light effort—This will include routine lab-related activities and nothing unusually demanding.
