Research Technician

Equivalent relevant work experience may be substituted for degree requirement. This position is located at UPMC Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh in Lawrenceville. PA Child Abuse History Clearance, PA State Police Criminal Record Check, and FBI Criminal Record Check will be required prior to the start of employment. Job Summary
Performs a variety of laboratory experiments and procedures. Prepares specimens. Oversees supply management. Operates and properly maintains equipment.
Essential Functions
- Performs a variety of laboratory experiments such as histology, flow cytometry, molecular techniques, gene sequencing, and related technical functions, testing, troubleshooting, and analysis, including microsurgical procedures, and ensuring conformity to specifications.
- Identifies and prepares specimens.
- Oversees supply management: ordering, procurement, tracking estimates, and receiving items.
- Operates and maintains applicable laboratory equipment for job functions.
- Keeps detailed, accurate, and timely data and log books. Organizes and documents results.
- Maintains, calibrates, cleans, and tests sterility of laboratory equipment.
- Perform laboratory experiments and data analysis aimed at studying and improving treatments for the pediatric cancer Ewing sarcoma. The technician will work with an enthusiastic lab group in pediatric oncology to help find better treatments for childhood cancer.
- Learns and performs techniques including: cell culture, in vitro assays, flow cytometry, RNA analysis, protein analysis, and some general lab maintenance responsibilities.
- Prepare specimens both from cell culture and in vivo experiments.
- Organizes and analyzes data for future publications.
- Enthusiastic to work as part of a growing team and to learn new techniques.
