Research Technician

The Department of Surgery is currently seeking a Research Technician for the Trauma and Transfusion Medicine Research Center (TTMRC). The Research Technician will assist with day to day research lab operations including performing research studies using molecular biology, immunology, and histology procedures, experiment coordination, data collection, and analysis; perform complex survival and terminal surgical procedures in rabbit and ferret models of trauma; maintain breeding colonies; maintain and organize all regulatory documentation of chemical and controlled substances; work with various regulatory offices (EHS inspection, IACUC inspections) to ensure lab compliance and safety; assist with management of several funded multi-center studies and provide oversight of purchasing laboratory supplies and maintenance of inventories.



Job Summary

Performs a variety of independent laboratory work and experiments such as determining experimental protocols and preparation of specimens and cultures. Prepares reports of findings subsequent to compilation and analyzation. Oversees specimen inventory. Develops documentation for publication; crafts manuscripts and grant proposals.


Essential Functions 

Frequent standing, traveling distances between laboratories and other sites. Excellent hand/eye coordination required for small animal surgery; use of anesthesia machines, Seahorse instrument; writing, speaking and reading English required; excellent computer/database skills.


Physical Effort 
Frequent standing, traveling and lifting of supplies; collaborators and /or equipment at offsite locations.
