Position Summary
The Chung lab harnesses the anti-tumor potential of our immune system via synthetic biology. We’re exploring the crossroads of synthetic biology, immunology, and cancer cell biology. We engineer cells so that they achieve maximum therapeutic efficacy at the right place and at the right timing. We employ protein engineering, next-generation sequencing, CRISPR screening, and bioinformatics.
More specifically, we are (1) generating a compendium of master regulator combinations of different T cell states and (2) creating advanced synthetic biology toolkits for artificial cell state differentiation. In the longer term, (3) we will modulate the crosstalk between T cells and tumor microenvironment (TME) via designer oncolytic viruses.
The position will provide molecular and cell biology bench support. Duties will include working under the supervision of Dr. Chung to complete molecular and cell biology and cellular immunology experimental procedures including molecular cloning, cell culture, flow cytometry.
The position will also be relied upon to ensure the lab space is maintained, data and records are organized, and that the purchasing of required supplies is completed.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
Demonstrated possession of the competencies necessary to perform the work.
Required Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience
Candidate must have basic knowledge of molecular biology. Must have basic familiarity with use of database/spreadsheet, word processing, email/messaging software. Have a strong record of reliability, consistency, and organization. Good interpersonal skills, ability to follow directions, handle criticism and to work productively with others.
Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience
Familiarity with general lab operations is preferred. Familiarity with the principals of basic molecular biology concerning the analysis and manipulation of DNA (e.g extraction, PCR, and cloning); protein (extraction, quantification, western blot) is preferred. Experience with cell culture is preferred. Experience with flow cytometry/sorting is preferred. Additional experience in next generation sequencing techniques (library preparation), database management is preferred. Basic animal handling experience is preferred.
Able to complete a number of different tasks simultaneously and have excellent time management skills.
Special Physical/Mental Requirements
Must be able to work standing or sitting at lab benches and hoods and move up to 25 pounds with or without reasonable accommodations.
