Job Summary
Responsibilities
Conduct laboratory experiments to explore the emergence of life on Earth and the creation of artificial life forms.
Assist in data collection, organization, and analysis, utilizing software tools and statistical techniques.
Stay updated on the latest scientific advancements through literature reviews and contribute to the design and execution of experiments.
Ensure laboratory maintenance, including equipment handling, supply management, and adherence to safety protocols.
Collaborate effectively with team members, attend group meetings, and present research findings.
Contribute to the preparation of research reports, scientific papers, and grant proposals.
Collects and enters data. Assists in analyzing data. Assists with preparation of reports, manuscripts and other documents.
Assists with the installation, sets up and performs experiments; interacting with students and other laboratory staff under the direction of the principal investigator.
Performs other related work as needed.
Minimum Qualifications
Education:
Minimum requirements include vocational training, apprenticeships or the equivalent experience in related field (not typically required to have a four-year degree).---

Preferred Qualifications
Education:
Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry, Biology, Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, or a related discipline.
Experience:
Experience during academic studies or internships is advantageous.
Technical Skills or Knowledge:
Knowledge of basic computer skills, including Microsoft Office and data management software.
Understanding of safety protocols and practices in a laboratory setting.
Familiarity with scientific literature databases and research tools.
Preferred Competencies
Scientific Knowledge: Strong understanding of synthetic biology, biochemistry, or molecular biology concepts and principles, including familiarity with relevant laboratory techniques and protocols.
Research Skills: Proficiency in conducting laboratory experiments, collecting, and analyzing data, and interpreting research findings. Experience with data analysis tools and software is advantageous.
Communication: Excellent written and verbal communication skills to effectively collaborate with team members, present research findings, and contribute to scientific publications and grant proposals.
Organization and Attention to Detail: Strong organizational skills to manage laboratory operations, including equipment maintenance, supply inventory, and data organization. Attention to detail is crucial for accurate data collection and analysis.
Problem-solving: Ability to think critically, identify research challenges, propose solutions, and adapt to unexpected outcomes or experimental difficulties.
Teamwork and Collaboration: Willingness to work collaboratively with diverse team members, share knowledge, and actively contribute to group discussions and meetings.
Time Management: Effective time management skills to prioritize tasks, meet project deadlines, and balance multiple responsibilities.
Adaptability: Openness to learning new techniques, incorporating feedback, and adjusting research approaches as needed in a dynamic research environment.

There may be occasional lifting or carrying of supplies or equipment within specified weight limits.
Flexibility in working hours, including evenings or weekends, may be required to accommodate the needs of research projects.
