Position Description

Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory (CSHL) invites applications for the position of Research Technician in the laboratory of Prof. Tobias Janowitz. You will become part of a team that will use laboratory and clinical research to discover how tumors interact with the body. Dr Janowitz’s lab investigates how the interaction between the tumor and host organism’s systemic metabolism, endocrine system, and immune system can be harnessed to develop new combination therapies for patients with cancer. To help with this effort, we are looking for a highly motivated, scholarly, and interactive person to join as technician.


Position Responsibilities

Your role as a technician will entail a variety of responsibilities, including mastering technical skills and procedures, experimental planning, and maintaining laboratory infrastructure and organization. You will work in a state-of-the-art laboratory and will be part of a team of basic scientists and clinician scientists. Though much of the role is collaborative and will involve assisting or working alongside more senior lab members, there are significant opportunities for growth, more independent work, and meaningful contributions to research.
The ideal candidate should have experience in mammalian cell culture and molecular biology techniques. In addition, the candidate should have strong organizational skills and experience in using and maintaining data spreadsheets. Technicians will also be expected to travel between an off-site animal facility and main campus regularly.


Position Requirements

Education: A Bachelor’s Degree in Biology, Chemistry, Biochemistry or a related discipline is required.
Experience: Work will include research with mouse models of disease and willingness to handle animals is an absolute requirement. Experience in mammalian cell culture and basic molecular biology techniques is desirable. Comprehensive skills in data handling and excellent record keeping are equally important. Undergraduate experimental discovery work. 
Skills: Must be curious, very organized, and highly motivated, and team orientated.
Previous research technicians have transitioned to PhD programs, MD/PhD programs, and MD programs after 2-3 years of work in the laboratory.

The salary range for this role is $45,000-49,449. The salary range and/or hourly rate listed is a good faith determination of potential base compensation that may be offered to a successful applicant for this position at the time of this job advertisement and may be modified in the future.
