Position Summary
The Tsai lab uses the zebrafish spinal cord as a model to understand how cells form precise spatial patterns and structures in embryo development. The fundamental knowledge will be beneficial to prevent congenial diseases and to improve consistency of artificial tissues and organs. The technician will execute experiments on generating transgenic and genome-edited zebrafish, in vivo live microscopy to acquire cellular dynamics during development, multiplex in situ staining to quantify gene expression in space and time, and image analysis to characterize developmental outcomes in wildtype and mutant conditions.
Assists with laboratory duties in a research setting; performs routine tests with direction from the supervisor, manager or higher-level technician.


Job Description

Primary Duties & Responsibilities

  • Assists the investigator or higher-level technician with research studies, experiments and assays, including collection of data, preparation of solutions and set-up and maintenance of equipment.
  • Maintains files on research and assists with data entry.
  • Assists with general lab maintenance and cleaning.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Working Conditions

Works in a laboratory environment with potential exposure to biological and chemical hazards. Must be physically able to wear protective equipment and to provide standard care to research animals.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Based on the interdisciplinary nature of our research, a candidate with a strong background in biology and quantitative science is highly preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to maintain complete and organized records/reports.
  • Working knowledge of computer software.


Required Qualifications

High school diploma or equivalent high school certification.

Salary Range
$16.21 - $21.69 / Hourly

The salary range reflects base salaries paid for positions in a given job grade across the University. Individual rates within the range will be determined by factors including one's qualifications and performance, equity with others in the department, market rates for positions within the same grade and department budget.
