The Research Technician independently performs a variety of routine to moderately complex tasks, protocols, and experiments in a research lab with work progress being monitored by a supervisor/manager. Additionally, this position requires providing day-to-day direction to undergraduate students and training them in routine lab procedures. Furthermore, this position requires maintaining lab facilities and equipment to facilitate day-to-day lab operations, and occasionally ordering lab supplies.

Responsibilities:

The Marder Lab is interested in understanding how circuit function arises from the intrinsic properties of individual neurons and their synaptic connections. Of particular interest to us today is the extent to which similar circuit outputs can be generated by multiple mechanisms, both in different individual animals, or in the same animal over its lifetime. To address these questions we employ electrophysiological, biophysical, computational, anatomical, biochemical, and molecular techniques.

This position entails:
1) Aiding in day-to-day operations and experiments in the lab to ensure forward progress of the research grant's aims. (40%)
2) Aiding in supervising the undergraduate laboratory workers and training them in routine laboratory tasks. (30%)
3) Maintaining the freshwater & sea-water animal facility which houses the lab's research animals. (20%)
4) Aiding in organizing and maintaining laboratory data. (10%)
