Job Description

A Research Technician position is available in the Tseng lab at the ASU-Banner Neurodegenerative Disease Research Center at Arizona State University. We are seeking a highly motivated individual to work in collaboration with graduate students and postdoctoral researchers studying how normal aging leads to neurodegenerative diseases. A successful candidate would be detail-oriented, highly organized, and able to work independently following supervision and guidance on lab technique and safety. Previous experience in basic molecular biology and biochemistry lab techniques is advantageous, but training will be provided for all duties. This position is an excellent opportunity to develop technical tools and foster critical thinking and analytical skills valuable for a career in research. Salary Range

$20.40 - $25.50 per hour; DOE


Essential Duties

  • Molecular biology work, including preparation for and assistance with PCR genotyping, western blotting, and molecular cloning.
  • Preparation of solutions, buffers, and standard culture media.
  • Mouse colony management and husbandry.
  • Culture of cell lines and primary mouse neurons.
  • Transfection of DNA into cell lines and primary neurons.
  • Immunohistochemistry staining of human or rodent brain sections.
  • Maintain and record results in a lab notebook.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in a field appropriate to the area of assignment; OR, Four years research experience appropriate to the area of assignment; OR, Any equivalent combination of experience and/or education from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been achieved.


Desired Qualifications

  • Tissue culture experience is preferred but not required, training will be provided.
  • Experience in rodent colony maintenance and molecular biology is a plus but not required.

Working Environment

  • Regular activities require ability to manage multiple tasks at one time, to be able to prioritize tasks; to manage conflict: to interact in a team environment: and to communicate through verbal and written work.  
  • Activities are performed in an environmentally controlled office setting and laboratory subject to extended periods of sitting, keyboarding and manipulating; a computer mouse; required to stand for varying lengths of time and walk moderate distance to perform work.  
  • Frequent bending, reaching, lifting, pushing, and pulling up to 25 pounds. 
  • Regular activities require ability to quickly change priorities which may include and / or are subject to resolution of conflicts.  
  • Ability to clearly communicate verbally, read, write, see and hear to perform essential functions. 
  • May be required to wear personal protective equipment before entering laboratories such as lab coat, gloves, safety glasses, closed toe shoes and respirator.
