THIS IS A GRANT-FUNDED POSITION 

JOB SUMMARY/ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:   The Research Technician 2 performs critical tasks and trains lab personnel necessary to achieve the goals of our NIH-funded research on the genetics of drug addiction in the Department of Pharmacology, Addiction Science and Toxicology at the University of Tennessee Health Science Center.

 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES : 

  • Manages the breeding colony of rats.
  • Selects breeding pairs and assists in the weaning of rats.   
  • Inserts RFIDs to identify each rat.
  • Records all data in a relational database.
  • Euthanizes rats and collects tissues.
  • Maintains a tissue database.
  • Assists in ongoing nicotine or oxycodone self-administration test.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

    Qualifications

     

    MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:  

    EDUCATION: Bachelor’s Degree in Biology or related sciences. (TRANSCRIPT REQUIRED)

    EXPERIENCE: OR a combination of college coursework and work experience to equal eight (8) years. (Experience working with rodents and survival surgery is preferred.)

    KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES :

    • Knowledge of rodent breeding.
    • Skill in data logging.
    • Excellent organizational and communication skills.

    WORK SCHEDULE: This position may occasionally be required to work evenings and weekends.
