Job Description Summary
The Huh Lab in the Department of Bioengineering at Penn Engineering is seeking a full-time research specialist to provide research and technical support to members of the Group on microfabrication, microfluidic cell culture, and instrumentation projects. Will utilize knowledge of cell biology, microfabrication, and microfluidics to participate in highly varied interdisciplinary research projects at the interface of material science, human microphysiological systems, micro/nanofabrication, and automation robotics to produce high-impact research. Major responsibilities include microfluidic cell culture/analysis, microfabrication of polymeric molds used for building elastomeric cell culture devices, and instrumentation of cell culture devices for various types of human cells used in organ models developed by the Huh Lab. Will have the opportunity to carry out independent studies in collaboration with the members of the Huh Lab.
Position is contingent on continued funding.
Job Description
Job Responsibilities

  • Microfluidic cell culture and analysis: collaborate with graduate students and postdocs in the group; culture, differentiate, maintain, and analyze various types of human cells grown in micro-engineered devices.
  • Design and development in vitro ocular models: develop human cell-based model of the human eye, especially the ocular surface, for screening toxic effects of drugs, environmental materials, and in-dwelling biomedical devices in collaboration with postdocs and graduate students
  • Micro-and nanofabrication via cleanroom techniques and soft lithography: Fabricate microfluidic templates and devices in photoresists and PDMS using soft lithography and photolithographic techniques.
  • Manage project-related lab supplies and equipment

Qualifications
Bachelor of Science degree in mechanical engineering, bioengineering or related field and 0 to 1 year of experience in microfluidics and microfabrication or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Hands-on experience in microfluidic cell culture is preferred.
