Job Title:  Research Services Information Sciences Professional

Job Summary:

This position is an 100% FTE position as a Research Services Information Sciences Professional for studies which screen children for type 1 diabetes and celiac disease in Colorado and support national monitoring and education efforts. This position is part of the clinical sciences research team who collect extensive clinical data, while conducting ongoing case management/follow-up of the study cohorts. This position works closely with study leadership in the oversight and is actively involved in the implementation and management of study protocols as well as creating, integrating, applying and sharing knowledge to further advance use of electronic health record systems and EPIC capabilities with study partners, including Children’s Hospital Colorado (CHCO), Denver Health (DH), and University of Colorado Health (UC Health).

Key Responsibilities:

Collaborate with and support Principal Investigators (PI) and other stakeholders in the area of data analysis

Collaborates with Clinical Applications Systems (CAS) at CHCO team in EPIC maintenance, generating reports, managing participant records

Creation of study-specific EHR data collection protocols, including research encounter and consenting documentation, lab orders, dissemination of results, and best practice communications.

Develop and disseminate a variety of tools designed to access relevant clinical and sample data

Creatively and effectively integrate data from multiple sources to accelerate discoveries

Write custom scripts to access databases and analyze data

Create and design REDCap forms for multiple purposes for supporting projects

Independently and creatively identify bioinformatic and data management solutions

Assist Team Leads, Supervisors and/or management with creation and implementation of processes and procedures and quality improvement initiatives

Assist and train junior team members

Additional Duties & Responsibilities:

This position has an important role in the maintenance and optimization of the EPIC research module for BDC research protocols.

Serves as a liaison between the EPIC team, the end-users and stakeholders to facilitate a smooth integration of the EHR for research purposes. 

Work Location:

Hybrid – this role is eligible for a hybrid schedule of 2 days per week on campus and as needed for in-person meetings. Transition into hybrid schedule will be based on this role grasping everything needed to fully work independently. This decision would be made by the supervisor.

Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Bioinformatics, Biostatistics, Computational Biology, Data Science, Computer Science or related field
  • One (1) year data management and bioinformatic analyses experience

Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire.

A combination of education and related technical/paraprofessional experience may be substituted for the bachelor’s degree on a year for year basis.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in Bioinformatics, Biostatistics, Computational Biology, Data Science, Computer Science or related field
  • Two (2) years of experience analyzing data using high-performance computing

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Strong knowledge of basic statistical principles relevant in medical research
  • Ability to analyze and solve complex problems and apply quantitative analytical approaches
  • Demonstrated fluency in one or more programming languages (e.g., R, Python, Perl, Java, C++) and willingness to learn new programming languages as necessary
  • Familiarity with statistical analytical concepts and methods
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both in writing and orally
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees at all levels throughout the institution
  • Outstanding customer service skills
  • Demonstrated commitment and leadership ability to advance diversity and inclusion
  • Knowledge of basic human anatomy, physiology medical terminology
  • Ability to interpret and master complex research protocol information

Anticipated Pay Range:

The starting salary range (or hiring range ) for this position has been established as $54,534  – $69,367.

The above hiring range represents the University’s good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting. This position may be eligible for overtime compensation depending on the level.
