This position is for the Division of Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Nutrition within the Department of Pediatrics. The Ghazi lab is seeking an enthusiastic scientist with PhD training in aging and/or splicing biology and/or immunity to work on an NIH-supported project on the role of mRNA splicing of lipid-hydrolyzing factors during immune response and aging. The selected candidate will work on a multi-disciplinary, collaborative project to conduct these studies. We are seeking a candidate who functions well in a lively, collaborative lab environment. Background in model organisms will be greatly valued but is not essential. Training and expertise in both basic laboratory science and in the biotech sphere is highly desirable. This position is located at UPMC Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh in Lawrenceville. PA Child Abuse History Clearance, PA State Police Criminal Record Check, and FBI Criminal Record Check will be required prior to the start of employment. Job Summary

Conducts independent scientific research projects from inception to presentation. Prepares and crafts various documentations of research results into manuscripts, proposals, grant applications, and presentations. Trains undergraduates and research technicians. Manages laboratory policies and coordinates project development in collaboration with other specialists.


Essential Functions 

• Conducts independent scientific research projects from inception to presentation, including 
planning, organizing, conducting experiments, assessing protocol feasibility, processing and 
analyzing data, and conference presentations. 
• Prepares manuscripts, research proposals, articles, grant applications, work for publications, and 
presentations based on research results. 
• Trains undergraduates and/or research technicians. 
• Recommends, drafts, and manages laboratory policies and procedures. 
• Facilitates work and project development in collaboration with other industry and academic 
specialists.
