The Department of Chemical and Biological Engineering at the South Dakota School of Mines & Technology seeks a Computational modeling expert to be appointed at the level of Research Scientist III in a temporary grant funded position. The recruited Research Scientist is expected to apply his/her analytical, biological, and computational skills and contribute to developing and implementing computational Metabolic Network Modeling. The work will require participation in a range of activities, including (1) The ability to collect and analyze multi-omics data, (2) the ability to integrate multi-omics data (genomics, transcriptomics, and/or proteomics) to develop models of metabolism in individual microbial hosts with specific reaction-diffusion equations to identify novel metabolites and bioproducts, (3) use the scientific literature to generate and examine cross-disciplinary and cross-cutting research questions related to metabolic/process modeling, (4) present scientific data at internal & external meetings/conferences and publish results in peer-reviewed journals, and (5) mentor and provide hands-on training to other team members to accomplish project goals. In addition, the candidate will also be encouraged to work with PI to identify additional (project) opportunities to support their scientific and professional development. Above all, ideal candidates should be creative problem-solver and may perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned or directed by the supervisor. 
 
Candidates will have an earned doctorate in Computational Biology, Computer Science, Data Science, Bioinformatics, Chemistry, Chemical and Biological Engineering, Mathematics, or a closely related discipline at the appointment time. 1 to 3 years of related experience is required. The successful applicant should have an excellent publication record in relevant fields. Previous advising and mentoring students in projects and a strong record of multi-disciplinary collaboration are highly desirable. The desired start date is August 2023. Preference will be given to candidates with prior knowledge and research interest in applying Bioinformatics, Functional genomics, Data Science, Artificial Intelligence, and/or Machine learning for Advanced biomanufacturing, Biomaterials/biomolecules, or Lignocellulosic bioprocessing.
