Position Summary

The UNM Clinical and Translational Science Center’s Community Engagement and Research Core (CERC) is seeking a knowledgeable, detail-orientated, and strong leader Sr Qualitative Research Scientist to join our dynamic team. The mission of the CERC is to provide research infrastructure that supports academic and community stakeholders to engage in mutually beneficial partnerships for effective clinical and translational research. The CERC provides expertise in the full spectrum of the research process that supports and expansion of research within communities in New Mexico.

 

The ideal candidate will have moderate knowledge and experience in qualitative and community-engaged research methodologies. This candidate will be detail-oriented, possess strong interpersonal and communication skills, and have the ability to work effectively with a variety of university and community members. Under general supervision, they will employ a broad knowledge of principles, practices, and procedures to plan, coordinate, and conduct community-engaged and/or qualitative research.

 

Duties and Responsibilities

1.      Plan, coordinate, and conduct scientific research requiring judgment in the independent evaluation, selection, and substantial adaptation and modification of standard scientific techniques.

2.      Apply an analytical approach to the solution of a wide variety of problems or apply specialized techniques or ingenuity in selecting and evaluating approaches to unforeseen or novel problems.

3.      Demonstrate and apply thorough understanding of scientific methods, research protocols, qualitative data analysis software, and data interpretation.

4.      Design, perform, and/or oversee studies and data collection to ensure data integrity, quality control, and protocol compliance.

5.      Collect, analyze, and interpret data; prepare qualitative, narrative, and or descriptive reports, as appropriate; prepare manuscripts for publication; present research results to scientific conferences and other groups.

6.      Independently perform most research assignments with instructions as to the general results expected; receives guidance on unusual or complex problems.

7.      Maintain currency of knowledge with respect to relevant community-engaged and/or qualitative research and qualitative data analysis software.

8.      May lead, guide, and train staff/student employees, interns, and/or volunteers performing related work; may participate in the recruitment of volunteers, as appropriate to the area of operation.

9.      Perform miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.

10.  Travel as needed to support projects.

11.  Work flexible schedule to support projects including occasional evenings, weekends, and overnight travel.

 

 

TERM APPOINTMENT: Funding available through 5/31/2025; continuance beyond that date is subject to availability of funding. The CTSC grant cycle ends 5/31/2025 and we are applying for renewal for funding for an additional seven years.

Conditions of Employment
  • Successful candidate must submit to a post-offer, pre-employment physical examination and medical history check. Additional health screenings may be required, dependent on the nature of the research conducted, as determined by Employee Occupational Health Services.
Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree; at least 3 years of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.

Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution that are above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis.

Preferred Qualifications

            Ability to speak Spanish

            Expertise in NVivo software.

            Ability to draw and process blood.
