The Tata Lab in the Duke University Department of Cell Biology seeks a temporary Research Scholar with a strong background knowledge and hands-on experience in transcriptional regulation and bioinformatics skills are particularly welcome. The Tata lab at the Department of Cell Biology, Duke University School of Medicine has two openings for postdoctoral researchers to study cellular plasticity mechanisms in lung injury repair and tumorigenesis. We seek to understand the genetic and epigenetic basis of organ regeneration and tumorigenesis. We study the properties of stem/progenitor cells in diverse epithelial tissues (with a primary focus on lung epithelium) and their relationships with neighboring tissues in physiopathological conditions. We utilize genetic, live imaging, cell biological and next generation sequencing technologies to study the behavior of tissues at single cell level. We offer an inspiring intellectual, collaborative and multidisciplinary research environment to support your career goals and provide access to state-of-the-art facilities.

Principal responsibilities for this position include the following:

• Qualified candidates are expected to lead a research program in the Tata lab focusing on transcriptional and epigenetic regulation of cell plasticity that controls lung stem cell self-renewal and differentiation at homeostasis and repair after injury. Prospective candidates are expected to communicate with members of the Tata lab and collaborators both at Duke University and other institutions. Candidates will be involved in and expected to contribute to writing grants, progress reports, and manuscripts. Further, candidates are expected to provide training to graduate, masters, undergraduate students and research assistants in the Tata lab. Candidates will meet the Principle investigators, Dr. Tata, on a weekly basis both in 1:1 meetings and group meetings including progress presentation and journal club meetings.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Recent PhD with a strong background in transcriptional regulation, cell biology, molecular biology, mouse models of cancer, and/or biochemistry. Prior experience in stem cells, chromatin biology and bioinformatics is advantageous. Evidence of successful completion of a research project (publications). An ability to work independently; interpret, present and discuss experimental data. We expect that candidates possess excellent communications skills.
