The Research Project Manager will lead the Coastal Subsurface Monitoring project that entails of establishing new coastal subsurface monitoring system in Southeast Florida cities vulnerable to evolving near-shore subsurface water and saltwater risks to infrastructure. The monitoring systems will establish current conditions, document change as sea levels rise, and provide early warning of changing subsurface conditions that permit coastal managers, utilities, municipalities, and building officials to plan, adapt, and avoid potentially catastrophic infrastructure failures.


The Research Project Manager will lead the investigation of sites for potential construction, interfacing with public and private landowners and permitting agencies, and facilitation of legal access and construction agreements and permits. Coordinates with subsurface utility owners and operators and facilitating and overseeing the work of monitoring system construction contractors.

  • Coordinates and participates in monitoring system siting meetings with academic staff and municipal stakeholders. Provides updates on site selection, access, and permitting status
  • Monitors the progress of the project and oversee contractor's adherence to plans, permits, budgets, and schedule.
  • Investigates and reports on candidate monitoring site feasibility.
  • Leads efforts to obtain site access including coordination between landowners and project legal representatives.
  • Leads efforts to obtain all necessary permits for monitoring site construction from municipal authorities.
  • Leads the coordination between contractors, property owners, buried utility owners, and any other relevant stakeholders to ensure non-disruptive and safe completion of monitoring system installation.

 

Bachelor's degree and 2 years of relevant experience; OR six (6) years of relevant training and/or military experience ; OR an equivalent combination of relevant education and/or experience.

  • Experience with construction and construction permitting processes, experience in buried utilities and/or geotechnical investigations and foundations.
  • Ability to travel within the 4-county region of southeast Florida (from Palm Beach to Monroe counties) to job sites, government, stakeholder, and contractor offices.

 

Administrative

$80,000 - $90,000

Begin time: 8:30 AM
End time: 5:00 PM

  • Operating University Vehicles (all types)
  • Required to work outside more than one hour per day
  • Able to work flexible hours in the often-harsh environment of South Florida
