Normal Work Schedule: Monday - Friday 8:00am to 5:00pm; occasional evenings and weekends.


Job Summary: The Research Project Coordinator supports the overall development of research projects. Assists with project design, management, and implementation. Promotes the project and serves as liaison between the project and contacts internal and external to the University. May supervise students, provide general office assistance, create promotional materials, and assist in the development of other potential projects.


Additional Department Summary: The Research Project Coordinator supports the overall goals and objectives of multiple projects for the Institute for Rural Health Research. Assists with project design, management and implementation, including the All of Us Research Program, a nation-wide study administered by the National Institutes of Health to advance individualized prevention, treatment, and care for people of all backgrounds. This includes assisting with project design, management and implementation as well as ensuring that the day-to-day operations of research projects are completed according to the guidelines and timelines. This position partners with the Project Investigators to achieve the goals of funded programs and to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements. This position may also supervise learners, coordinate with community partners and provide office assistance.

Provides input in the development of the program plan and objectives with responsibility for achieving objectives within defined parameters. Provides supervision of residents and fellows’ schedules and is responsible for long-range planning. Responsibilities include budgeting, networking/public relations, technical training and assistance, and report writing.

Additionally, this position will serve as the point person building and maintaining effective working relationships with internal and external constituents for the research programs.

This role will also include communication and coordination with multiple state agencies, universities, federal funding agencies.


Required Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor's degree or higher and some experience coordinating projects.


Skills and Knowledge: Strong organizational skills. Ability to prioritize, manage details, and meet strict deadlines. Ability to maintain accurate documentation and update records in a timely manner. Ability to work independently within the assigned scope of work, identifying and performing a wide variety of activities that require the use of independent judgment, problem-solving, and critical thinking skills. Ability to anticipate and plan proactively for known deadlines and annual cycles. Ability to recognize and maintain confidentiality of sensitive information.

Strong written and verbal communication skills. Ability to cultivate effective partnerships. Strong leadership, facilitation, and collaboration skills. Ability to demonstrate tact, versatility, and adaptability. Working knowledge of standard office software applications, including Microsoft Office.


Preferred Qualifications: Master’s degree in health administration, business, healthcare, or communications preferred. Previous experience working in a healthcare and or higher education environment.

Some previous research experience working with research study participants preferred. Familiarity with West Alabama/East Mississippi communities and local resources. Bilingual abilities (English and Spanish) are a plus.
