Research Programmer

 

The lab of Prof. Sebastian Seung in the Princeton Neuroscience Institute and the Computer Science Department at Princeton University is seeking a full-time research programmer. Responsibilities will include the creation and maintenance of computational tools for neural circuit reconstruction. The successful applicant will be an energetic, self-directed learner with strong programming abilities and proven capability to work independently.

 

The position will begin immediately. Applications should include a cover letter, CV, and list of three references.  Review of applications will continue until the position is filled.  The final applicant must successfully pass a background check. 

 

This is a one-year term position with the possibility of extension contingent upon satisfactory performance and continued funding.

 



Key Responsibilities include the creation and maintenance of computational tools, such as:

  • image acquisition software with quality control and fault detection based on computer vision
  • image stitching and alignment software based on classical computer vision and deep learning
  • automated error detection and correction of EM image segmentations by artificial intelligence
  • registration of 3D electron microscopic and light microscopic images by computer vision
  • augmenting a dataset in the ChunkedGraph database
  • browser-based 3D interactive segmentation
  • extraction of morphological properties from 3D reconstructions of neurons
  • connectome-based brain simulator


ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related field. 
  • Knowledge of some core programming language such as Python, C++, Java.
  • Strong desire to learn new technologies
  • Strong communication skills.
  • Willingness to expand skillset on the job, as new requirements are defined.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Master’s degree in Computer Science or a related field
  • Experience with PyTorch, OpenCV
  • Experience with HTML5, CSS3, JavaScript, NodeJS, WebGL, MySQL, PHP, 
  • Experience with C++, Boost, Qt, OpenGL
  • Experience with GCP, AWS
