The UNC Translational and Clinical Sciences Institute (TraCS) serves as the academic home for the University’s Clinical and Translational Sciences Award (CTSA), a funded NIH grant. The vision of the TraCS Institute is to transform how clinical and translational science is being performed, here at UNC, throughout the State and out into the CTSA national community.
Position Summary
Flexible work arrangements, including virtual/hybrid work locations, are an integral part of the School of Medicine’s Working Forward initiative. As such, this position’s work location is designated as hybrid. Please note that the designated work location is subject to change based on the unit’s business needs.
The Program Manager of Workforce Development will oversee efforts to develop and resource Clinical Research Professionals (CRPs) to bolster the capacity for clinical research across UNC, UNC Health, and its partners to promote quality operations and outcomes. The Program Manager will determine strategic direction and identify best practices, needs, and opportunities for strategic initiatives to support career development programming available to UNC translational investigative teams, focusing on CRPs. The Program Manager will be responsible for supervising and managing the activities of multiple project managers as the Workforce Development Program expands. In addition, they will develop, pilot, evaluate, and implement initiatives aimed at improving staff satisfaction, increasing diversity, bolstering availability and effectiveness of training, improving hiring and retention, ensuring alignment of initiatives with overall mission and vision of the NC TraCS Workforce Development program and the national Clinical and Translational Science Awards Consortium.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
Relevant post-Baccalaureate degree required (or foreign degree equivalent); for candidates demonstrating comparable independent research productivity, will accept a relevant Bachelor’s degree (or foreign degree equivalent) and 3 or more years of relevant experience in substitution. May require terminal degree and licensure.
Required Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience
Our ideal candidate possesses the following:
* Comprehensive knowledge of study initiation processes, day-to-day research project operations, reporting policies and procedures, roles of research team members, and local and federal regulations governing clinical research operations and compliance.
* Understanding of the evolution of Clinical Research Professionals career and research workforce development strategies.
* Demonstrated capacity to manage and coordinate programs in a complex and dynamic environment and under critical timelines.
* Ability to analyze data and make data-driven decisions.
* Strong leadership skills with the ability to think critically and creatively, to help plan the work of others, and to work collaboratively across diverse partners and stakeholders.
* Superior communication skills, both verbal and written.
Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience
Preferred qualifications include:
* Relevant experience in an academic clinical research setting, particularly in the management of large scale, multidisciplinary clinical research projects and initiatives, with experience in both industry-sponsored and physician-investigator-initiated studies.
* Previous engagement partnering with national clinical research organizations and initiatives (e.g. SOCRA, ACRP).
* In depth understanding of regulations and standards governing staff positions at UNC-CH.
* Experience delivering presentations at a national level.
