I. JOB OVERVIEW

Job Description Summary:
The Columbian College of Arts and Sciences is GW’s intellectual and creative backbone—a place where research thrives, critical thinking is encouraged, collaboration is constant, and real-world training goes hand-in-hand with learning. As pioneers of the Engaged Liberal Arts, we equip students with the skills needed to be effective, responsible 21st-century citizens.
This intermediate-level position focuses on providing research program support and pre-award management on behalf of research programs and initiatives within Research Administration POD 1. POD 1 supports the Columbian College of Arts and Sciences, Elliott School of International Affairs, George Washington School of Business, the Graduate School of Education and Human Development, the College of Professional Studies, Libraries and Academic Innovation, and units reporting directly to the Provost. This position will have an assigned regular portfolio of Principal Investigators and programs within that group to provide day-to-day support. Employees within POD 1 are formally classified as fully remote, allowing them to be on campus for as many days as they would like in our dedicated office space or work entirely remotely. We have employees working successfully across all modalities and remain a close-knit team.
The individual will work directly with the Principal Investigators (PIs) and will be expected to function independently, with general oversight from the Manager for Research Administration Pod 1, which supports six academic units, and in coordination with the Associate Deans for Research, the Finance Directors and other members of the administrative teams within those units, as well as central administration, including the Office of the Vice Provost for Research (OVPR).
As a liaison between sponsors, investigators, and campus partners, this role is critical to maintaining effective relationships and responsiveness to the George Washington University, federal, and sponsor policies, regulations, and values.
Duties and Responsibilities:
• Coordinate sponsored project proposals, including budgets. Prepares budgets to meet all solicitation and project needs and guidelines; ensures compliance of budget with OMB Uniform Guidance, University policies and procedures, and sponsor regulations; reviews budget with faculty PIs and refines as necessary; ensures allowable indirect costs and fringe benefit rates are applied appropriately.
• Coordinates own time schedule for preparation and submission of proposals; obtains necessary authorizations/signatures, submits proposals, and follows up on proposal status.
• Manage and monitor proposal status with the PI and coordinate response to sponsor requests for additional information (i.e., Just-in-Time, revised budget, etc.)
• Manages all communication and coordination with subcontractors, public, private, and government agencies, foundations, and other individuals or groups to exchange information, enlist collaboration, prepare proposals, and submit and implement sponsored projects.
• Identifies issues and streamlines activities that further benefit the Pod and OVPR.
• Serves as a liaison between the Pod and OVPR.
• Enhances professional knowledge and skills by attending seminars/workshops and reviewing published literature and federal guidelines.
