The department of Health Behavior and Society is seeking a Research Program Assistant II (RPAII). Will contribute to the field activities for an ongoing community health project that measures prevalence of HIV, health and social issues, health-related behaviors and access to services among people who use drugs in the Baltimore metro region. Will be responsible for all phlebotomy-related aspects of the project and may conduct HIV testing and counseling. Additional duties may include the provision of referrals and participation in data collection activities.


Specific Duties & Responsibilities

  • Perform blood draws and maintaining specimen logs.
  • Administer HIV counseling and testing.
  • Assist lab manager in liaising with the lab regarding blood samples and test results.
  • Phlebotomy supply management
  • Assure biohazardous material compliance.
  • Occasionally assisting with data collection activities.
  • Responsibility for ordering equipment and supplies.


Special Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills and demonstrated ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • Demonstrated experience working independently and ability to work well in an unstructured environment as well as part of a team.
  • Strong attention to detail and protocol adherence, while maintaining flexibility to respond to multiple priorities.
  • Demonstrated experience with study population and/or other marginalized populations.
  • Familiarity with or interest in harm reduction and public health approaches to drug use and related risk reduction.
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to interact with a variety of people.
  • Proficiency in computer systems and electronic communications.
  • Able to occasionally work flexible hours to accommodate protocol needs.

Minimum Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or graduation equivalent.
  • Two years related experience.
  • Additional education may substitute for required experience, to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Some college courses.
  • Some related experience and interest in HIV and HCV.
  • Experience with research or data collection activities.
  • Phlebotomy certification.
  • Experience with computers and data collection technologies.
  • Prior experience or interest working with study populations and/or other diverse populations.
  • Maryland HIV pre- and post-test counseling certification.

 


 

Classified Title: Research Program Assistant II 
Role/Level/Range: ACRO40/E/02/CC  
Starting Salary Range: $15.50 - $26.00 HRLY (Commensurate with experience) 
Employee group: Full Time 
Schedule: Other Some Saturdays 9am-12 pm, possibly two weekday evenings up to 7pm 
Exempt Status: Non-Exempt
