BSD MGC - Carrillo Lab

About the Department

The Carrillo lab at the University of Chicago seeks a Research Professional, Specialist to participate in research focused on molecular mechanisms underlying neural circuit development, wiring, and function. We focus on novel interactions between subsets of cell surface proteins and aim to understand their roles in nervous system development. The ideal candidate must be highly motivated to perform cutting edge research with the intent of publishing in highly respected journals. Our research uses molecular biology, genetics, biochemistry, microscopy, and circuit function assays (electrophysiology, optogenetics, genetically encoded calcium sensors) for experimentation with the genetic model system Drosophila and primary neuron and S2 cell cultures. The selected candidate will work closely with the PI to conduct independent, cutting-edge research and provide regular oral reports on progress in our group meetings. In addition, he/she will participate in writing reports, manuscripts, and research grants. Training of other lab members, including students and postdocs, is also required. The candidate will operate largely independently on a daily basis and will be encouraged to contribute intellectually to the studies. Ultimately, we want an enthusiastic, fun, collegial, productive group of researchers that can work well independently and collaboratively. This at-will position is wholly or partially funded by contractual grant funding which is renewed under provisions set by the grantor of the contract. Employment will be contingent upon the continued receipt of these grant funds and satisfactory job performance.
