Brief Summary of Work for this Position
Work typically involves co-creating and leading field and laboratory experiments in the Wetlands Ecology laboratory. The Research Manager must hold experience in traditional methods to analyze soils, water, and plants for carbon (various forms) and nutrients to include field sample collection and post-processing. This position will coordinate and conduct assessment using analytical instrumentation. The role will ensure the lab is compliant with health and environmental safety. This position will develop SOPs for all methods used in the lab/field; they will test and adapt standard techniques for applications specific to this lab; they will conduct independent experiments to support the lab’s priorities.
The Research Manager will oversee all field travel administration, including travel authorizations and reimbursements; field safety; site access (and permitting); and compliance with scientific methodologies.
The research manager will liaise between the Principal Investigator (PI) and students (both graduate and undergraduate) to ensure observations and experiments are carried out correctly. They also will interact with colleagues and co-PIs of the Wetland Ecology lab’s PI (Sutter) to ensure compliance with grants and other awards.
Work requires sufficient background knowledge to enable this position to work effectively in wetland science. They must apply independent judgment in planning and conducting details of the sample collection and experiments. In addition, this position will manage and organize data by project and conduct statistical analyses of results in consultation with the PI.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
The Research Manager should hold a master’s degree in a relevant field (biology, ecology, or Earth Science) with direct experience in wetland biogeochemistry.
