JOB DESCRIPTION:

  • Supervises staff (generally ten or more employees) in a large and/or complex research laboratory.
  • Responsible for administrative, financial, staffing and planning aspects of research.
  • Designs instrumentation, theoretical models, equipment and other vehicles for data gathering and analysis.
  • Designs and applies scientific and numerical models in research.
  • Oversees development and integrity of data collection and instruments.
  • Conducts on-going, periodic and final analyses of data, using specialized techniques and programming.
  • Writes and collaborates with other researchers on manuscripts, abstracts and other publications of research findings.
  • Collaborates with other researchers on long-range plan for overall research.
  • Performs related responsibilities as required.

ADDITIONAL JOB DETAILS:

  • Supervises staff (generally ten or more employees) in a large and/or complex research laboratory.
  • Teaches or instructs others in research techniques and trains new staff.
  • Exercises considerable latitude and independent judgment in overseeing the day-to-day operation of the research core.
  • Oversees the purchasing of lab supplies and major equipment. Negotiates contracts and quotations, when needed.
  • Designs and manages the installation of major equipment.
  • Manages and maintain all equipment and facilities used.
  • Manages quality control, safety activities and preventative maintenance service contracts.
  • Responsible for administrative, financial, staffing and planning aspects of research.
  • Designs instrumentation, theoretical models, equipment, and other vehicles for data gathering and analysis.
  • Designs and applies scientific and numerical models in research.
  • Design experiments with the Principal Investigator and analyze data jointly.
  • Oversees development and integrity of data collection and instruments.
  • Conducts on-going, periodic, and final analyses of data, using specialized techniques and programming.
  • Serves as a consultant and provides technical expertise in scientific theory, research and methods of collection and analysis of data sets for a variety of research projects.
  • Using an advanced knowledge of research methodology and techniques, provides leadership in the planning and development of survey instruments, guidelines, and procedures to collect required data.
  • Coordinates various aspects of the study.
  • Routinely develops research protocols.
  • Reviews and edits text for studies.
  • Conducts extensive literature searches and effectively summarizes reported research findings and their applicability to the research.
  • Coordinates research and intervention activities with the team.
  • Provides direction to consultants and team members.
  • Writes and collaborates with other researchers on manuscripts, progress reports, abstracts, and other publications of research findings.
  • Collaborates with other researchers on long-range plan for overall research.
  • Performs related responsibilities as required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • A bachelor's degree in a scientific field; related master's degree preferred.
  • Five years of professional research experience.
  • Three years of supervisory experience.
