Research Lab Technician I

The Modrek Lab in the Department of Radiation Oncology at USC is seeking a full-time Research Technician I.

The Research Laboratory Technician I position will involve molecular biology, microscopy, sequencing library preparation, working with rodents, and/or handling of human pathology specimens for processing. Preference will be given to candidates with prior experience in mammalian cell culture and sequencing library/genomic library preparation. The candidate must have proficient communication skills, knowledge with a variety of computer programs for word processing, statistics, and image analysis.

We prefer at least 1 year laboratory experience. Preference will be given to candidates who have demonstrated evidence of working well in a team environment, working meticulously on complex problems, and strong organizational skills.

Notably, this is a unique opportunity for those interested in applying to subsequent graduate school, medical school or residency as the laboratory head has mentored many undergraduates and graduate students who have gone on to prestigious MD, PhD or MD/PhD programs. The annual base salary range for this position is $21.07 - $27.63/hr. Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s or Master's degree in Biology, Bioinformatics, Biophysics, Computational Biology, Computer Science, Cancer Biology, Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, or relevant fields.

  • Fully competent and proficient in the operation of sophisticated scientific equipment and independently able to perform complex procedures and techniques with accuracy

  • 1+ years of experience with a strong record of accomplishments and project experience in molecular biology, cell culture, epigenetic models, and rodent models.

  • A strong background and/or prior hands-on experience in experimental biology is highly desirable.

  • Good oral and written communication skills in English.

  • The ability to learn new techniques and protocols.

  • The ability to collaborate with biomedical scientists.
