Responsibilities*

The Kresge Hearing Research Institute is seeking a highly motivated individual with a strong interest in research.  The Apostolides laboratory studies neurophysiology of central auditory circuits using electrophysiology and 2-photon imaging.  Successful candidate will perform behavior experiments with mice, perform stereotaxic survival surgeries, manage the animal (rat+mouse) colonies, prepare standard lab buffers and acute brain slices for electrophysiology, perform histology, and data analysis. Additional responsibilities may include contributing to in vivo and in vitro electrophysiology/imaging experiments.  The individual will be expected to play an active role in laboratory management such that strong organizational skills are required.  Prior laboratory experience is highly recommended.


Required Qualifications*
  • HS Diploma or Assoc Degree
  • 2 years or more of research laboratory experience.
  • Experience in handling of mice or rats is required.
  • Familiarity with laboratory maintenance and organization and scientific method.
  • Ability to work independently and to manage multiple research projects simultaneously.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills are required.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work with others in a collaborative environment.

  • Desired Qualifications*
  • BA/BS in neuroscience, psychology, biology, or related field.
  • 1-2 years of experience with stereotaxic surgery, histological methods, and animal behavior is desired.
  • Experience with electrophysiology, imaging, and/or computer programming is preferred.

  • Background Screening
