Research Investigator - Beyaz Lab

Updated: 2 days ago
Location: Cold Spring Harbor, NEW YORK

Position Description

Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory (CSHL) invites applications for a Research Investigator in the laboratory of Dr. Semir Beyaz. A successful candidate for this position will have completed PhD and postdoc training in biomedical sciences, preferably in cancer biology, stem cell biology, epigenetics, metabolism, microbiome and/or immunology. We are looking for an experienced and highly motivated scientist to join a collaborative team of scientists in our lab on developing novel approaches to mitigate toxicity and enhance efficacy of cancer therapeutics by modulating nutrient metabolism. This exciting project is in collaboration with a leading US-based venture capital firm and biotech company. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to develop new skills in basic science and learn about the process of translating discoveries from bench to bedside.
The Beyaz lab aims to understand how nutrients and metabolism influence cellular networks that govern tissue regeneration, cancer and immunity. We dissect the precise mechanisms of how reciprocal interactions between tissue stem cells, immune cells and the microbiome affect tissue fitness or cancer outcomes. We utilize state-of-the-art experimental and computational approaches to integrate genetic, epigenetic, metabolism and microbiome data to identify causal targets that can be therapeutically exploited. To assess therapeutic potential of our discoveries, we have established a comprehensive and inclusive biobank with tissue specimens, autologous patient-derived organoids and immune cell co-culture systems from patients across diverse ancestries. The successful candidate will have access to all of these resources in the Beyaz lab and work in partnership with the biotech company to develop effective cancer therapies with minimal toxicity to host.

Position Requirements

Education: PhD in biomedical sciences, ideally with additional postdoc experience in cancer biology, stem cell biology, epigenetics, metabolism, microbiome and/or immunology.

Skills and experience: The ideal candidate should have significant experience in molecular biology and mouse models of cancer. Having publications in the fields of metabolism, immunology, stem cell biology, epigenetics or cancer therapeutics will be an advantage.
