The Levitt lab in the Department of Pharmacology at the University of Michigan is seeking a post-doctoral research fellow interested in conducting research to understand brainstem mechanisms underlying opioid-induced respiratory depression. As a postdoctoral research fellow in the lab, the successful candidate will utilize leading-edge neurophysiology techniques, including brain slice electrophysiology, respiratory motor nerve output and single unit recording in an in-vivo like pontomedullary network model, and in vivo measurements of breathing in mice, and will be expected to independently design and conduct experiments, perform data analysis, write manuscripts, and present data at scientific meetings. They will also help supervise and train other laboratory personnel including students in techniques needed for advancement of research in the lab and participate in the daily maintenance of the lab. Ph.D. in Biology, Chemistry, or related field.
