The purpose of this position is to execute engineering research and development project assignments with a primary focus on research funded by the Office of Naval Research. Large-scale robotic advanced manufacturing methods for maritime structures and systems are a key research focus area. Specific project needs include composite materials, maritime operations, manufacturing, and experimental evaluation. This position is located in Portland and Brunswick, Maine. Typical hiring range for this soft-money funded position is commensurate with Career Level: 

 

Engineer I – up to $75,000
Engineer II – up to $85,000

Required:

Engineer I 

  • B.S. in an Engineering or related field.
  • Less than three years of professional experience or education related experience while obtaining undergraduate degree.

Engineer II

  • M.S. in an Engineering or related field or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Three to less than five years of professional experience.

Required for both Engineer I and Engineer II levels.

  • Advanced coursework or equivalent experience in some of the following areas required: advanced composites, finite element modeling, engineering design, advanced mechanics of materials.
  • Excellent oral and written communications skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects and constant deadlines.

Preferred:

  • Experience in conducting static and dynamic laboratory load tests of composites.
  • Experience in student research.
