Position Summary
The incumbent in this position will be expected to have primary responsibilities for the autologous islet isolation in conformance with strict FDA guidelines. In addition to complex cell manufacturing and technically demanding skills, the candidate must be able to exercise independent judgment and work throughout the various stages of the cellular harvesting process. The candidate is also expected to contribute actively to the development and testing of new methodologies and technologies, including the design and execution of experiments, the independent evaluation of new equipment, reagents, and other collateral materials, and to make recommendations based on expertise and experimental results. This individual will closely work with transplant program team to coordinate organ pick up and islet cell delivery. This individual will be participating in both clinical and research activities.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
Relevant post-Baccalaureate degree required (or foreign degree equivalent); for candidates demonstrating comparable independent research productivity, will accept a relevant Bachelor’s degree (or foreign degree equivalent) and 3 or more years of relevant experience in substitution. May require terminal degree and licensure.
Required Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience
Candidates must have an established background in clinical islet isolation, cell biology, cell culture and molecular biology. Candidates must also have demonstrated proficiency in scientific methodology, excellent analytical and writing skills and the capability to work in a multidisciplinary research team. Chosen candidate must have knowledge of scientific terminology, previous experience with standard laboratory procedures and equipment, and be able to effectively perform duties and responsibilities. Candidate must have knowledge of the IACUC and IRB with the ability to manage the records and maintain these records.
Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience
Master’s degree preferred. Preference to candidates with knowledge of federal and state regulations governing the participation of animal research subjects and have prior experience with Clinical Islet Transplantation. Also, preference to candidates with experience with endodermal stem cell populations, microscopic surgical skills, and previous experience with experimental transplant models including cell signaling pathways, knowledge of liver, and pancreas cell isolation.
