Job Summary:

A full-time Research Associate position is available in the laboratory of Kristi Kuhn, MD, PhD, Associate Professor in the Division of Rheumatology at the University of Colorado School of Medicine. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to study host-microbe interactions in the etiology of rheumatoid arthritis (RA).  This position will be a valued contributor to a multi-disciplinary team with experts in rheumatology, immunology, and microbiology.

 Key Responsibilities:

  • Design and execution of experiments to identify bacteria associated with RA and its immune responses as well as test potential causality of such bacteria in murine models.
  • Independently carry out experiments. The responsibilities include optimization of protocols, ensuring accuracy of experiments, and record-keeping of all experiments, data, and analyses.
  • Data analysis and presentation in written (manuscript) and oral forms.

Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:  

Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire.  

  • PhD in microbiology, immunology, or related field
  • Experience with animal models of autoimmune arthritis and immune profiling through flow cytometry, ELISA, and histology
  • Demonstrated publication record 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Five (3) years’ experience in an academic medical center research laboratory
  • Experience in bacterial sequencing analysis as well as bacterial culture
  • Experience working in the field of RA and microbiome 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Innate curiosity, good organizational and interpersonal skills, and a desire to pursue an independent academic career.
  • Outstanding recordkeeping, writing, and oral presentation skills
  • Willingness to work with mice
  • Ability to analyze microbiome and metabolome data
  • Knowledge of the immunologic features of RA

Anticipated Pay Range:

The starting salary range (or hiring range ) for this position has been established as HIRING RANGE:

$65,000 to $85,000/yr

The above salary range (or hiring range ) represents the University’s good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting. This position is not eligible for overtime compensation unless it is non-exempt.
