Job Description:


The Department of Sustainable Earth Systems Sciences (SESS) at The University of Texas at Dallas
invites applicants for a Postdoctoral research position in the field of critical zone geophysics,
which will be funded and mentored by Prof. Nadine Igonin. Her research group works on applied
geophysics, including primarily seismology, and secondarily, near-surface geophysics (various
methods). The postdoctoral researcher will work on projects related to analyzing the upper 50-
100 m of the earth's surface and understanding stress conditions within the critical zone. Research
topics of interest include, but are not limited to, using active seismic and GPR data to map
subsurface structures along the Gulf Coast of Texas, monitoring ground water levels in west Texas,
and understanding pressure/stress in fractured bedrock. The researcher will also be encouraged
to help write research grant proposals and conduct independent research.

Minimum Qualifications:

Ph.D in a related field.

Preferred Education and Experience:


Candidates must hold a Ph.D. in Near Surface Geophysics or a related field by the time of hire.
The successful applicant should have experience with collecting active seismic and GPR data in
the field, as well as processing and interpretation. The postdoc will be part of a larger active
research group in Geophysics and will be involved in helping to mentor undergraduate and
graduate students. The position is initially for one year, and is renewable depending upon
performance and funding.
