Job Description

Research Associate will assist the institute with project planning, development, management, and implementation of research and education projects.

Responsibilities:

-Assist with project planning, development, management, and implementation of research and education projects.

- Environmental monitoring/herpetology/ecological sampling and technical writing.

- Work with clients and staff on all levels, including contractors, research faculty, and TAMU-NRI partners.

- Plan, schedule, and execute work through military installation.

- Collect data about natural resources, listed species, conditions, trends, and status to guide management activities.

- Monitor and manage gopher tortoise populations and tortoise habitats using proficiency in herpetofauna identification skills.

-Other duties as required.

Required Education and Experience:

- Bachelor’s degree in applicable field or equivalent combination of education and experience.
-Two years’ related experience.

Preferred Education and Experience:

- Undergraduate or graduate degree in wildlife management, rangeland ecology, or relevant field

- Two or more years of experience with environmental monitoring to include wildlife and plant identification, wildlife monitoring methods, ATV operating certification, GPS, and GIS system use.

- Previous experience with federal land management and integrated natural resource plans.

Required Special Knowledge, Abilities and Skills:

- Ability to work long hours outdoors under varying weather conditions, lift and carry heavy loads, and occasionally work odd hours.

- Excellent interpersonal, customer service, verbal, and written communication skills.

- Knowledge of computers and computer software related to the position.

- Ability to maintain attention to detail and utilize sound judgment.

- Strong organizational and problem-solving skills.

- Ability to complete projects accurately, on time, and in a professional manner.

- Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others.

Preferred Special Knowledge, Abilities and Skills:

- Knowledge of research directing eligibility listing and Section 404.

- Proficiency in use of Word, PowerPoint, Excel, PhotoShop, ESRI/ArcGIS, and other appropriate software.
