The Research Associate, under general direction of the Associate Dean for Research in the School of Nursing, performs independent or supervisory roles in research activities requiring an advanced level of knowledge in a field of science or learning, are predominantly intellectual and varied in character, and require consistent use of discretion and judgment. Prepare proposals and narratives for funding agencies to secure specific grants, provides support in scholarly writing to advance research support, coordinates research activities and events within the Office of Research, and may provide supervision of graduate students and other project personnel in research. The Research Associate is responsible for leading data collection activities, training facilitators for program implementation, and assisting with preparation of annual performance reports to the Federal government for the evaluation of an innovative adolescent sexuality education program.

Other Requirements and Factors: This position is funded from grant and/or contract funding which is renewed under the provisions of the grantor of the contract. This position, therefore, is contingent upon continuation of funding of these grants and/or contracts and satisfactory job performance.

Required Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in relevant field.

  • Two years of professional experience working in one or all of the following fields; public health intervention, teen pregnancy prevention and/or Sexual health programming.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Familiarity with appropriate laboratory and/or technical equipment.

  • Ability to effectively utilize a computer and applicable software to create databases, perform statistical analyses, present data and perform other computer related tasks.

  • Ability to multi task and work cooperatively with others.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s Degree in related field (e.g. public health, nursing, health education, or other related fields).

  • Three years or more related professional experience.

  • Experience conducting human subjects research.

  • Experience with community-engaged research and evaluation projects.

  • Experience developing and utilizing online survey tools and software.

  • Experience in writing grant proposals.

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.

  • Desire and ability to work collaboratively and help maintain a fun and supportive team environment that is focused on advancing our work to effectively address health disparities for underserved populations.

Responsibilities:

  • Research Development Planning and Coordination: Design, plan, conduct and coordinate research activities in support of various research projects. Prepare and write proposals to funding agencies; maintain financial knowledge and funder requirements related to research projects. Prepare narratives and coordinate the steps and processes in preparation for the submission of the proposal.

  • Research Implementation: Conducts sponsored research to include data assemble and analysis. Evaluate, select, and apply standard techniques of routine research; keep detailed records of data. Use computers and laboratory or technical equipment to perform data analysis, statistical analysis, and technical evaluation of research projects and results. Collaborate with partners to ensure successful implementation of research projects. May supervise undergraduate and/or graduate students and other project staff involved in research. May install, operate and/or repair research equipment.

  • Research Support: Works closely with research teams to coordinate efforts related to the school’s portfolio of research projects. Summarize results for inclusion in scientific and clientele oriented publications.

  • Develop online tools, including surveys tools to collect qualitative and quantitative data.

  • Coordinate research learning events and other activities to enhance the culture of research. Other duties as assigned.
