THIS IS A GRANT-FUNDED POSITION 

JOB SUMMARY/ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:   Under the direction of the Principal Investigator (PI), the Research Associate performs drug discovery research involving the potency evaluation for small molecule therapeutic in various projects defined by the team in the Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences.

 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Performs in-vitro assays to evaluate the potency of small molecule compounds in cancer cells.
  • Performs mechanistic studies using modern molecule biology and cancer biology techniques.
  • Performs toxicology, pharmacokinetics, and efficacy evaluations of new compounds in mouse models of human cancers.
  • Implements new biological techniques from literature, when needed, to facilitate drug discovery research.
  • Develops and implements new mouse xenograft models, if needed, for drug discovery research. 
  • Solves complex and varied problems utilizing a broad disciplinary perspective to identify solutions.
  • Writes manuscripts, reviews articles/book chapters, contributes towards preparing new grant applications, and presents ongoing research at national scientific meetings.
  • Assists the PI in mentoring and training graduate students and junior postdocs.
  • Performs other duties as required.

    Qualifications

     

    MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:  

    EDUCATION: Ph.D. in Molecular Biology, Cell Biology, or a related field. (TRANSCRIPT REQUIRED)

    EXPERIENCE:  Two (2) years of experience in drug discovery and cancer biology research. Strong publication record in small molecule drug discovery and evaluation, as demonstrated in multiple first-author papers in medicinal chemistry or cancer research journals.

    KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

    • Strong skills in cell biology.
    • Knowledge of small molecule drug discovery and development.
    • Ability to work independently and creatively.
    • Ability to work with lab members, write publications, and assist the PI in grant applications.
