The Research Associate position is intended to develop and manage applied policy research of the Margaret Chase Smith Policy Center by participating in research and economic development projects. The Policy Center houses the Maine University Center for Economic Development, this federal project focuses on leveraging university assets to build regional economic ecosystems that support innovation and high-growth entrepreneurship, resiliency, and inclusiveness. This position will directly contribute to university center activity. The work location for this position is on the Orono campus of the University of Maine; however, remote working is negotiable. Typical hiring range for this position is $60,000 to $74,000 commensurate with qualifications and experience.

Required:

  • Typically, has the education associated with a Master’s Degree in economics or social science or policy related discipline.

Preferred:

  • Three or more years of experience with applied research activity.
  • Demonstrated applied social science research skills.
  • Experience with quantitative data collection methods and statistical analysis such as economic impact analysis, statistics, econometrics, and/or GIS. 
  • Knowledge of proposal preparation.
  • Familiarity with a variety of computer platforms and software applications, including statistical analysis software.
  • Highly developed verbal and written communication skills.
  • Familiarity with public policy processes and governmental institutions.
  • Ability to travel, normally requiring a valid driver’s license.
