The Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science invites applications for a full-time Post-Master’s research position. The successful candidate will conduct research exploring computer network traffic patterns and approaches to capturing, modeling, and analyzing these, with particular emphasis on data visualization. This work will include IT tasks, software development, and user interaction. The successful candidate will work in a team of researchers focused on all aspects of the above. Specific application areas of interest include modeling of Argus flow data.
The position is open effective July 1, 2017. The Post-Master’s researcher will report to Dr. Jens Gregor. The compensation package includes a competitive salary, health benefits, career mentoring, and support for travel to relevant meetings and conferences.






An MS degree in computer engineering or computer science is required along with experience in the following areas:
- Set up and use of Linux servers for large-scale data processing
- Programming experience using C/C++, Java and Python
- Extensive experience with Elasticsearch and Kibana
- Web development experience with JavaScript and PHP
Prefer someone with an understanding of parallel computing and other aspects pertaining to large-scale data processing is preferred, including experience-developing software for multi-core platforms. A working understanding of network protocols and Argus flow data would be of benefit.
Excellent oral and written communication skills and the ability to communicate effectively are also required. In addition someone who has been in a team lead or supervisory role rather in academia or industry is very important.
Based on these qualifications, the successful candidate will be expected to:
- Take a leadership role in software architecture design efforts
- Proposal development and research protocols
- Develop data analysis and visualization software
- Work closely with and mentor student researchers
- Present results at conferences, workshops and other meetings
- Publish in peer-reviewed journals
