Updated: 1 day ago

Join the forefront of groundbreaking research at the Beckman Research Institute of City of Hope , where we're changing lives and making a real difference in the fight against cancer, diabetes, and other life-threatening illnesses. Our dedicated and compassionate faculty and staff are driven by a common mission: Contribute to innovative approaches in predicting, preventing, and curing diseases, shaping the future of medicine through cutting-edge research.

The Department of Hematologic Malignancies Translational Science at City of Hope is recruiting a full-time Research Associate II to support research projects in the laboratory of Dr. Pamela Becker. The Becker lab focuses on novel therapy of acute myeloid leukemia (e.g.-RNA therapeutics or new inhibitors) and drug resistance in blood cancers (e.g.-acute myeloid leukemia, myelodysplastic syndrome) based on clinical features, mutations, and gene expression, with use of high throughput functional screening/multicolor flow cytometry to directly assay drug response.

As a successful candidate, you will:

  • Consult with Principal Investigator, Staff Scientist, academic researchers, pharmaceutical/biotech company researchers, and/or postdoctoral scholars on research approaches.
  • Perform standard specialized experimental procedures and techniques for research projects.
  • Conduct non-standard laboratory procedures, adapting to changing research needs.
  • Conduct in vitro experiments including exploring new therapies and molecular biology techniques.
  • Adapt standard procedures or improve tests based on literature review and analysis.
  • Collaborate on multidisciplinary projects by modifying procedures to meet project requirements.
  • Assist in data collection, analysis, and preparation for presentation/publication/grant applications.
  • Support daily laboratory operations, including ordering supplies, organizing the lab, and coordinating equipment maintenance; supervise student/trainee staff and report any issues to the Principal Investigator.

Your qualifications should include:

  • Bachelor’s degree. Master’s degree preferred.
  • Two years related research/ laboratory experience with a Bachelor’s degreeor one year related research/ laboratory experience with a Master’s degree.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in molecular biology, cell biology, engineering, biology, chemistry, or related field.
  • Tissue culture with cell lines and primary cells.
  • Molecular biology techniques including preparation of DNA, RNA for sequencing or other analysis.
  • Biochemical analysis techniques including western blotting, flow cytometry analysis, fluorescence activated cell sorting (FACS), magnetic bead isolation devices, and in vitro drug sensitivity assays.
  • Familiarity with data analysis/statistics and graphics software.
  • In vivo mouse models of leukemia.
