The Maine Access to Inclusive Education Resources (MAIER) and the College of Education and Human Development collaborate with partners both in and outside of the University of Maine in various areas, including autism education, research, and outreach, education practice and policy, child health and development, STEM education, and applied technology.  As a Research Associate, this person will be responsible for the day-to-day operation of research projects funded by state, federal, and private agencies. In addition, this person will assist in communications and projects associated with the goals and objectives of MAIER and for the development and maintenance of community-based programs and partnerships. Typical hiring range for this soft-money funded position is $50,000 to $54,000 commensurate with qualifications and experience.

Required:

  • A Master’s Degree and at least five years of professional experience.

Demonstrated experience in the following areas: 

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills are required.
  • Increased proficiency in writing research reports and grants required.
  • High level of proficiency in writing and adapting communications for a variety of audiences. 
  • Demonstrated increased levels of responsibility and initiative.  
  • Demonstrated ability to develop, lead, and manage projects, including training and supervision of graduate and undergraduate students and community volunteers.  
  • Demonstrated ability to conduct outreach efforts and initiate and sustain effective partnerships on behalf of MAIER to both campus community and the greater Maine community.
  • Demonstrated increased level of proficiency in designing research or evaluation studies.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage and conduct most aspects of a research or evaluation project including: development of protocols, data collection, report writing, and presentation of findings to clients or stakeholders. Train and supervise undergraduate and graduate student work. 
  • Demonstrated proficiency with at least one of the following:
  • Basic statistical and quantitative methods (survey design and administration, T-tests, ANOVA)
  • Basic qualitative research methods (e.g. data collection: interviewing, focus groups, observation, document analysis, & data analysis)
  • Demonstrated proficiency in conducting research or evaluation using mixed methods (quantitative and qualitative).
  • Demonstrated ability with basic database management and the use of spreadsheet software.
  • Experience in university-based research setting is preferred.
  • Ability to travel, typically requiring a valid Maine Driver’s License.
