Job Duties:


The projects and research will take place in community settings and involve advancing REI research-practice partnerships and services funded by multiple entities. The major responsibilities of the Research Associate position is to support REI programming in planning, coordinating, implementing and monitoring progress across all services. The Research Associate should be well-versed in research-practice partnerships, and project leadership as well as partnership development. The Research Associate should be a leader, critical thinker, and team player. Duties include but are not limited to a) leading research and community engagement projects b) maintaining data integrity and interpretation, and c) collaboration and developing partnerships.
60% Leading Research and Community Engagement Projects – This position is responsible for managing and administering planned, community-engaged programs, including planning, developing, and implementing activities, protocols, and timelines to implement and evaluate the program(s). The position will leverage considerable independent decision making to advance the assigned research project(s), ensure timelines are met, and manage program resources, including budgets. The position will monitor activities across an array of university and community partners associated with the program(s) and will identify and implement changes to trainings, communications, and procedures in consultation with the PIs and within the scope of study protocols. Example activities may include, identifying curriculum changes, addressing systems-level challenges between partners, proposing solutions to barriers, monitoring budgets, assessing appropriateness of payments for subcontracts and research participants, tracking project progress, and developing defined grant status reports. This position will mentor, assign, and monitor the work being performed by Graduate students on the assigned project(s).
20% Data Integrity and Interpretation – This position is responsible for the planning, development, implementation and evaluation of certain phases of the assigned project(s) with limited supervision from the principal investigators and/or program lead(s). Example activities coordination of data collection including scheduling and management and the development of trend analysis to ensure projected deliverables and outcomes are on track. The research associate will be responsible for ensuring that the studies are conducted in accordance with study protocols and will oversees and lead collection methods with considerable independence. A basic knowledge of research principles/project coordination, study design, and methods of data collection and analysis are required. The position will monitor data and assess its integrity as well as perform basic statistical analyses, including interpreting results.
20% Collaboration and Relationship Development —Communicates study and project progress to partners, community contacts, and other research teams. Solves problems in systems, including connections between research team, education systems, and community agencies. Example duties may include contributing to writing reports and making presentations on research data and program collection efforts.
ECU's College of Education trains and prepares educators to work in all environments (i.e., urban, suburban, and rural) however, many of our graduates work in rural communities in eastern North Carolina. As such, these positions are focused primarily on those interested in educating, working with, and supporting those in rural environments as well as conducting research on issues pertaining to rural education.
