The SCCC Research Associate 3 assumes responsibility for the design and performance of research focused on the development of novel experimental therapies for human malignancies. The incumbent contributes to collaborations with scientists within the University of Miami or elsewhere. Moreover, this individual works as part of a team and assists with the maintenance of laboratory equipment, protocols, and supplies.

Department Specific Functions

No strict post-degree training experience is required; however, evidence of motivation in computation immuno-oncology as evidenced by authorship of peer-reviewed publication(s) or 1-2 examples of analytic pipeline development and/or execution is preferred. Knowledge and training in single cell sequencing analysis is required. Interest and experience in NGS and other ‘omics data analysis (RNA-seq, ATAC-seq, TCR-seq, whole exome sequencing, etc.) is desirable. Background in cancer research and immunology is preferred.

CORE JOB FUNCTIONS
1. Contributes to basic and applied research activities by collecting and analyzing data.
2. Understands and interprets research protocols and procedures.
3. Maintains an overview of relevant research findings.
4. Ensures all research is undertaken according to good research practice.
5. Designs, evaluates, and implements methods and protocols for assigned research projects.
6. Recommends purchase of new equipment for research projects.
7. Writes scientific articles and manuscripts for publication and presentation.
8. Oversees and ensures the safe handling of radioactive and hazardous materials.
9. Prepares analytical reports relative to research data.
10. Adheres to University and unit-level policies and procedures and safeguards University assets.                                                                               

Education:

  • Bachelor's degree required
  • Masters’ degree or PhD in Computational Biology, Bioinformatics or a related field preferred. Alternatively, the candidate may have an advanced graduate degree in Molecular Biology, Immunology, or a similar field with a strong hands-on bioinformatics component.

Experience: 

Minimum 5 years of relevant experience
